Poor Boy's News
Available January 2010 - Poor Boy's Lure Dye. Several local tournament guys asked if we could match the "Old Ranger Dye" they loved so well. I don't know about matching it, but we came up with a formula that works and the guys love. Look for it at your local bait store or you will see it soon on the LureCraft web site. This product is also helping raise funds for the Future Fisherman Foundation. $0.20 of every bottle we sell will go to support the foundation.
Available February 2010, we are introducing a line of injected baits. Made with the same quality as our hand poured baits, we have chosen a small line of products we feel the fishermen will love as much as our hand poured baits. We will be adding them to the web site soon. Look for them in stores near you. If you can't find them, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help you. The baits will include a Wacky Worm, 2 creature baits, a craw and a trailer.
January 2010 - the introduction of the Dixie Darters w/2 Honey Hole hooks. Speically marked packages will include 2 Honey Hole hooks in a size 3/0. Available will also be three count packages in stores. Poor Boy's Baits and LureCraft will also be exclusive distributors of this hook so if you can't find them at you local store, call LureCraft or check on www.Lurecraft.com. A stock of these hooks will be available by 2/1/10. They will be available in 3 packs and also larger quantities.
You've been waiting for it and it is finally here. In June of 2009 Chad Pipkens weighed in a scale-smashing 28lb bag of smallmouth bass at the Michigan Division BFL tournament on Burt & Mullet Lakes. What was the secret to his success? This tool right here. Affectionately, it is called "The Flogger" because by using it, you can put a flogging on the fish. Drop it in the water and get a clear picture of the bottom of the lake.
And it's not just for sight fishing. This tool is extremely valuable anytime you are interested in seeing more detail under the water. In our clear northern waters it can be used to help you understand the bottom content, rocks, weeds types, etc. You can know exactly what is down there and not just guess.
Of course, the Flogger comes into prime use during the spawn. Instead of guessing whether or not that "dark spot" is a bed, you can drive right over to it, drop down the flogger, and know for sure. Sometimes you can even see fish on the bed if they do not spook off. It saves time and gives you increased confidence in bed fishing.
This tool will revolutionize sight fishing. Seldom do new tools like this come along that become "must-have" items. Usually when they do come along, they are outrageously priced. For $110 you can understand exactly what is going on beneath the water. This tool will improve your knowledge of bass habitat and give you a competitive edge.
Call up Poor Boy's Baits at . Ask specifically for Kim Straley. She will set you up and take care of you. Tell her you want a flogger.
Good luck!

PRESS RELEASE!

Chip Harrison of Bremen, Indiana,
recently won his first FLW Outdoors national victory on Lake Champlain
and gives much of the credit to Poor Boy's Baits.
"I used Poor
Boy's tubes in the colors watermelon, copper and purple as well as the
Poor Boy's D.S. Darter in a color called mango magic," Harrison says.
"When the people at Poor Boy's make a bait, they make it right. They use
ideal colors and the perfect amount of flakes so that the baits look
natural and not too gaudy."
From day one of the Wal-Mart FLW
series, which began Sept. 3, 2008, Harrison exclusively targeted
smallmouths, which sent the Indiana angler to the top 10 in the BP
Eastern Division event. With a three-day total of 52 pounds, 7 ounces,
the Iams pro entered day four approximately 4 pounds behind the leaders
who were targeting largemouths.
After catching numbers of
smallies early in the day with the tubes, Harrison made a move to one of
his favorite smallmouth holes in 17 feet of water. He picked up one of
his preferred smallmouth lures - a drop-shot rig loaded with a Poor
Boy's D.S. Darter in mango magic - and cast into the flat. Within
minutes he reeled in two sizeable largemouths, which culled Harrison up
to a final-day weight of 21 pounds, 6 ounces - one of the biggest limits
of the tournament. He leaped over the rest of the contestants to take
his first FLW Series victory with a four-day total of 73 pounds, 13
ounces.
"I've used the darter religiously since June and believe
that it's the best drop-shot bait that I've found," Harrison says. "The
tubes greatly helped my success as well because they closely matched
the color of the perch in the lake making them irresistible to the
smallmouths. I relied most heavily on the 3 ½-inch and 4-inch tubes
that I helped design with Poor Boy's owner Shawn Straley. Poor Boy's
has a variety of great-working, unique baits. Best of all, when I ask
Shawn to make a specific bait for me, he makes it just right."
Poor Boy's Baits are hand-poured and salt impregnated, which allow the
utilization of colors that injection molding companies cannot use.
Thanks to this process, Poor Boy's also creates multi-colored baits with
a defined line between the colors.
Poor Boy's Baits are made
out of some of the most expensive, high-quality, low-odor plastic
chemicals on the market.
"We do not use scents at all because our
baits have very little odor," Straley says. "The tournament fishermen
tell us that there's something about the type plastic we use that
catches fish. We listen to these anglers and provide them with the
design and color of baits they request."
